Indian Green Tea
For centuries, tea was known in India as a medicinal plant.
First mentioned in the ancient sanscrit text, the Ramayana, (750-500 BC), tea is native to the eastern and northern provinces of the Indian subcontinent has been consumed in that region of the world for thousands of years. Local inhabitants have chewed and brewed the leaves of the wild tea bush for centuries, and today, India is one of the largest producers, as well as tea consumers in the world, with nearly three quarters of all of the tea grown in the country being consumed within India itself. Today, the Assam Valley of northeastern India is home to many of the world's largest tea gardens.
